Korey Fields is dead.
When Enchanted Jones wakes with blood on her hands and zero memory of the previous night, no one—the police and Korey’s fans included—has more questions than she does. All she really knows is that this isn’t how things are supposed to be. Korey was Enchanted’s ticket to stardom.
Before there was a dead body, Enchanted was an aspiring singer, struggling with her tight knit family’s recent move to the suburbs while trying to find her place as the lone Black girl in high school. But then legendary R&B artist Korey Fields spots her at an audition. And suddenly her dream of being a professional singer takes flight.
Enchanted is dazzled by Korey’s luxurious life but soon her dream turns into a nightmare. Behind Korey’s charm and star power hides a dark side, one that wants to control her every move, with rage and consequences. Except now he’s dead and the police are at the door. Who killed Korey Fields?
All signs point to Enchanted.
REVIEW – I saw some people said that they thought that this books didn’t bring anything new about this topics but I think the exact appositive. I think this book brings to the book community what is already talk about in other types of entertainment (movies, tv shows, documentaries) but it will never be to much.
We should talk about this stories until something changes in society.
I’m not the right person to talk about the way the author wrote this topics because it never happened to me and I really recommend that you should look for reviews by people that know more about this topics.
But I think I can say that the way she wrote this book make me visualize in my mind and the way that she describes the abuse was so intense to the point that I have to take breaks.
My favorite parts were when she was with her family.
One of my favorite things in this books was the relationship between the main character, Enchanted, and her siblings and that they watched disney movies together. Their relationship reminded me of me and my sisters. I’m also a big fan of disney movies and it made me want to watch all of my favorites.
I think that the author wrote the characters in such a realistic and authentic way that is what makes this book so real and hard to read. Enchanted is a girl that have big dreams. You may think that she was naive but we have to remember that she was just a teenager so its not unrealistic.
With this book we see how society blames the victims for “not knowing better” but the only person that should be blame is the abuser and it’s never enough to point this.
When I was reading I instantly remember R Kelly and the documentary “Surviving R Kelly” and I will never understand why some people defend this celebrity’s when there are evidences that they are guilty. Just because they are famous that doesn’t mean that they have a green pass because a person that doesn’t have that type of money, fame or “power” wont have a green pass.
The end of the book fell a little rush and for a second I didn’t understood what was really happening.
I think this book should be translated because more people should be able to read this story and bring more people to talk about how society views celebrity’s that take advantage of their influence to hurt other people.
