Hi everyone! How are you? đ
For my reviews I will write them in topics that I like and didn’t like in that book but instead for the things I like will be “Marvels” and for the things I don’t like will be “Oddities”.
Why marvels and oddities? It is inspired in one of my favorite books of all time named “Love from A to Z” and in that book the characters wrote the marvels and oddities of everything in their lives.
Today I want to share the marvels and oddities of “Love and other natural disasters” by Misa Sugiura.
Title: Love and Other Natural Disasters
Author: Misa Sugiura
Genre: fiction, contemporary, young adult, romance
Trigger warnings: dementia, death of parent, cancer, homophobia
Format: Audiobook
When Nozomi Nagai pictured the ideal summer romance, a fake one wasn’t what she had in mind.
That was before she met the perfect girl. Willow is gorgeous, glamorous, and… heartbroken? And when she enlists Nozomi to pose as her new girlfriend to make her ex jealous, Nozomi is a willing volunteer.
Because Nozomi has a master plan of her own: one to show Willow she’s better than a stand-in, and turn their fauxmance into something real. But as the lies pile up, it’s not long before Nozomi’s schemes take a turn toward disaster… and maybe a chance at love she didn’t plan for.
Marvels
The writting – the authorâs writting is simple and realy easy to follow the book, especially if you read this book in the audiobook format (that was how I read it).
Nozomi and her brother, Max – One of my favorite parts was the friendship between them and it was the most funny parts in the book. I also really liked her relationship with her family.
Nozomi – she was such a funny character to read, especially whe she would start to talk about act like she was in a rom com.
Nozomi and her grandmother – I really liked how caring she was her grandmother but also hard because she didnât want to lose her love for being lesbian. I thouth that at the end Nozomi would teel her that she likes girls and that a grandmother wouldnât make homophobic comments but I think the book wanted to show that it isnât that simple.
Oddities
Nozomi and Willow – at first I liked the faking dating until the point that I was routing for other character to be with Nozomi. I wanted that what happens between them wouldnât be so rushed.
Nozomi – In the book she is still a teenager and at times she could be selfish in the name of having the âperfectâ relationship with Willow but I still like her character because sometimes she understand that her actions hurt other people.
In other times she didnât see that in some ways she make the types of mistakes that her mother did, those that she felt hurt by her mother.
I recommend this book if you want a fake-dating, with unapologetically queer characters that also talks about identity and acceptance.
âLoving someone the way they need to be loved is hard. People can be really bad at it. All we can do is keep trying.â – Misa Sugiura
